Railways arbitrary unresonable rule

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 03 May 2011 This query is : Resolved
I have transported Motorcyle from Belgaum to Mangalore and paid Rs. 750/- for transortation. They have intimated me unloading of vehicle after a week and the Railway has charged Rs. 240/- per day (i.e. Rs. 10/- per hour) as waiting charges at railway station. I have paid Rs. 1500/- extra money without being my fault.
Could any one tell me which enactment prescribe this rule? Is there any remedy?

I have a receipt and everything.. my quary is even though (for the sake of argument)let us presume i have collected the vehicle after a week delay, whether they can charge Rs.240/- per day.. even in paid parking also they will charge at the most Rs.50/- per day??

have you any proof for unloading after a week, ? then 1500 paid receipt.

you will have to prove that fact that you were not intimated in time.

otherwise please check whether there was necessity to send you the intimation as the trains run on time bound schedule....the arrival of the material must be on a certain date.

please check in this regard.

Railways do not intimate arrival of goods. The consignee has to watch for the arrival to release them. They send notice only after the specified normal claim period without any surcharge or penalty to get the goods released, before they can treat the goods as unclaimed and dispose of by auction.

Of course this is age old rule that needs some amendment.

U can move the Consumer court for deficiency in service.

Of course you may drag them to the consumer forum for deficiency in service.

You can approach the Consumer Redressal Forum, and if the delay is not on your part, inspite of diligent care, the Railways will be directed to pay due compensation towards their deficiency of service and agony suffered by you.
