Privilege leave

(Querist) 22 March 2021 This query is : Resolved
Can a corporate compel their employee to avail min 12 Privilege leaves in a year instead of encashment?

Thanks,
Naveen
Quick Summary
This discussion explores whether employers can mandate employees to take a minimum of 12 privilege leave days per year, rather than allowing them to encash these days. The consensus is that companies can enforce such policies, as the primary purpose of privilege leave is to ensure employee rest and boost productivity, not necessarily for financial compensation. While some companies offer encashment, others may compel leave, and this is generally considered acceptable as long as the employee is still being paid for their leave.

The precise object of earned leave/privilege leave is to provide the employee enough rest from time to time for short spells to enhance his/her productivity and not essentially for encashment.

So there is absolutely nothing wrong in the company taking and enforcing such a policy.

It is at the will and pleasure of the employer. Some pay encashment but some compel. Since you are getting paid leave, there can not be any loss to you.

Generally corporate allow compensation for "not" availing any such leave in the credit of employee. However, it is internal policy, which differs from company to company.
