Name change in index-ii

Hi,
I purchased a flat in 2000 and in Index -II my wife's name is 1st and then my name as 2nd.
Whereas in Sales Deed, my name is 1st and my wife's name is 2nd.
Now, Chairman of the society says that I'm not the first owner.
Pls. clarify and suggest whether Index-II is important or the Sales Deed.
And procedure for the Index-II correction.

serial no. is not important for co-owners having equal share.
You may execute correction deed at sub registrar, if really required by society.

Sale-deed is important than index-2.
