Name change doc for oci card

(Querist) 02 March 2014 This query is : Resolved
dear Sir:

I am a US citizen of Indian origin currently residing in India for more than a year. I wish to apply for an OCI card but my name on my Old cancelled Indian Passport is the one used in India and the name on the current US passport is the one that I have been using in the US. if I use my US name for a name change in India using an affidavit, publishing in the newspapers and publishing in the gazette, would those document suffice to resolve the name difference problem for OCI Card? Or do you think that I have to change it in the US and get a court order from there? Please respond. Thanks.

You do not need to change the name in US card. A notarised affidavit will solve the problem.

I didn't mean to change my name on the US passport. I meant that I want to use that name for my OCI as well as every other documents from here on in place of my old name that I used in India. Thanks anyway, Ram
