Is a minor traffic violation a criminal offence?

(Querist) 18 April 2011 This query is : Resolved
If I commit a minor traffic violation like jumping a red signal or going in the opposite direction on a one way, not wearing a helmet and I have to pay a spot fine or court fine will that be considered a criminal offence?
I am a civil service aspirant (IAS).
I know that if there is an FIR against you or a criminal case you are not eligible for a Govt job.
Can a traffic violation affect my Govt job prospects?

I am of the view that acts narrated by you may amount to criminal offence. However, as far as it is impact on your service is concerned, the same can be considered only after knowing provisions of service rules which govern your service please.

Traffic violation offence is act of negligence where mens rea is not involved. It is act of omission not commission. It will not act as a barrier for career in Govt. Service.
