DEAR EXPERT, I HAVE QUERY ABOUT THE LEGAL STATUS OF NOMINEE IN RTI ACT 2005.IF APPLICANT APPOINT A THIRD PERSON AS NOMINEE TO COLLECT INFORMATION FROM GOVT. OFFICE THEN IT IS BINDING ON PIO TO PROVIDE IT TO SUCH PERSON OR NOT?

It is simply called hair-splitting. When RTI Act provides that any Citizen of the country can obtain information from the Public Authority, what is the necessity of nomination etc., etc. Either the person concerned has to apply directly, or ask the other person to apply and obtain the information. Where is the need for appointing any nominee for this purpose. Why all this drama for such a simple and straight thing?

Such a specif provision is not made in the RTI Act 2005.
