Notary fee .

(Querist) 02 June 2025 This query is : Resolved
It is often seen that notaries charge 100, 200, 500 rupees for notarizing affidavits or agreements, whereas according to notary rules, the prescribed fee for notarizing affidavits and agreements is only 35 rupees. In such a case, can notaries charge more than the fee prescribed by the said rules? Is this legal? Is the fee list of notary rules not mandatory?

If you type the matter that you want on stamp paper as required, it will be a document. Then, the notary will attest the document with a notary stamp, and he will charge a minimum fee. But all parties will go with free hands, and they only say that they need notary attestation. So they will charge some amount than normal. However, you may choose another notary who attests with a low fees.
