When any application, appeal or petition is filed beyond the period of limitation prescribed therefor, the party making such an application, appeal or petition can seek condonation of delay in filing the same. The court may on sufficient cause being shown, condone the delay. Such an application can be filed either under section 5 of the Limitation Act, 1963 or under the statute whereunder such an application, appeal or petition has been filed and that statute contains specific provision for condonation of delay.
