Affidavit is most of time accompanied with Petitions. It contains averments against the respondent(s). Counter affidavit is filed by the respondent in reply to the Affidavit

Fresh filing of a solemnly sworn statement is Affidavit of the Petitioner. If the Respondent solemnly swears to his Reply Affidavit and counters the Petitioner's Affidavit by affirming or denying it, it is called Counter Affidavit. (Counter legally means Reply).
e.g., If A says in his affidavit that he is the landlord of B. But B doesn't agree that A is his landlord in his Counter-Affidavit.
