Call for Extortion

I got a call on my mobile from a unknown person asking for the details of a deal which I had completed with a client and money in cash of mine from kanpur. I have sent a notice from my firm to the client asking about that person who was calling me but my client denied any relationship with him. So, please direct me as to how I should proceed with this matter. Should I contact police or should I contact a lawyer.

Next time when you receive such calls Record the same and create ample proofs and file a police complaint with the help of a lawyer to make the case strong with good results
