Can 'Salami' or 'Pagdi' from a new tenant be taken in Bank draft / Bankers cheque; where the landlord is not transferring the right of ownership of the flat to the new tenant. The tenant would be taking the possession of the flat on low monthly rental basis. The jurisdiction is Kolkata.
This discussion clarifies whether landlords in Kolkata can accept 'salami' or 'pagdi' payments from new tenants when ownership rights are not being transferred. It explains that these payments are applicable between landlords and tenants, and a tenant does not become an owner without a proper property transfer. The core question revolves around how such payments relate to the agreed-upon monthly rent in these specific rental arrangements.

If the pagade amount is accepted by the landlord, what the rent agreed upon?

Salami and pagdi is applicable between landlord and tenant. A tenant shall remain always a tenant, how s/ he can become owner (titleholder) without proper transfer of property.
