request for withdrawal of resignation after relieving

(Querist) 31 January 2010 This query is : Resolved
I resigned by paying one month salary. Resignation was accepted and I was relieved. I requested for withdrawal of resignation after that. I received a letter that competent authority has declined my request. I came to know that appointing authority had not seen/considered my request.

my question is whether any authority other than my appointing authority can reject my request for withdrawal of resignation

Competent authority is different from appointing authority. To consider such requests of reconsidering the resignation, a competent authority may have been constituted by the organization. Only that competent authority has to decide your case and not the appointing authority. A competent authority need not necessarily be the appointing authority himself.

I agree with the above opinion

Normally once a resignation letter is received, it would be processed and forwarded to the decision making authority mostly the appointing authority in a file. The file may be approved by the appointing authority and then it comes back to the appropriate authority to communicate acceptance of resignation. You are under the wrong notion that only the appointing authority has to convey you the acceptance of your resignation. However, once your resignation is accepted, it is perfectly alright to refuse your request for withdrawal of resignation. You cannot challenge it. The power of communication might have been communicated to the competent authority orally or in writing.

Once resignation accepted, you lose your right to make any review application and even if it has been made as you mentioned in your quarry, it is not required to be decided by you erstwhile appointing authority as your relation of employee and employer has already been ended and so who so ever has decided you representation is purely valid and you cannot take any benefit out of this situation.
