Death certificate

(Querist) 23 September 2013 This query is : Resolved
if an Indian citizen dies outside India and a death certificate is issued by the CONSULATE GENERAL OF INDIA of that country.
1) Is this death certificate valid in India?
2) Does his family have to get the registration done in India again? IF yes under what provisions of law.

The citizen was from Uttar Pradesh.
Anirudh (Expert) 23 September 2013
Generally Consulate General will not issue the death certificate.

In fact the Death Certificate will be issued only by the Health Department of the concerned country.

However, that can be got authenticated by the Consulate General of India.

In any case, once such a death certificate granted in foreign land is available, there is no separate requirement for any separate registration in India. On the basis of the death certificate, other formalities like obtaining legal heir certificate, succession certificate, mutation etc. etc. can be got done in India.
