please advise how much share do i get on my side and how much my sisters get.

V R SHROFF (Expert) 25 November 2011
1/2 for u. [3 out of 6]

1/3 for ur father's own daughter (ur sister)[2 out of 6]

1/6 for ur step mother [1 out of 6]

No share to step mother's ex daughter u/s 8 Hindu Succession Act. 1956)

[ I Assume, ur father remarried after death of ur real mother. Your father and real mother both expired. ur step mother is alive ]

I differ with Shroff. Even if we presume that father of querist performed his re-marriage after death of his first wife and his second wife is alive then the querist being sole son, one sister born out of second marriage of his father and his step mother shall become equal owners to the properties left by his father intestate. This means these 3 persons are co-sharers of 1/3 share each.

Querist has no special status to get 1/2 share nor his step mother has inferior share of 1/6 as you suggested.

Your calculation otherwise is also wrong when we add 1/2 (for querist)+1/3 (step sister)+1/6 (step mother), it do not come 1 so your calculation and law both are wrong.

For giving you any complete answer you need to tell::...

1.Whether your grand father also inherited this property from his father[i,e.from your great grand father]?
2.Is your father alive??
3.Also tell in which state the property is located???

YOUR Answers to above questions have a great baring about shares.
