A society formed in 1987-88 was allotted land by MHADA on lease basis.
The Society allotted a flat to me, as founder member of the Society, in 1990.
An Allotment letter was issued to me, stating that I was allotted Flat No. .... on 2nd floor of building, having built up area of ..... sq feet.
Is Stamp Duty payable on the allotment letter?

No stamp duty is payable if it is merely allotment letter.

Thank you for the prompt reply.
The Co-op Society will not be issuing any other document of title. The Letter of Allotment itself will be the document of title. Would there be any charge of stamp duty then?

The title deed for u will be the letter of allotment coupled with the share certificate issued to u by the Society. As regards stamp duty you will have to check up the position under your state's stamp law.

Thank you Mr Gupta.
The property is in Mumbai - what is the position of Stamp Duty under the Bombay Stamp Act?
