Income tax relief for senior citizens

Please clarify whether a senior citizen is required to opt either 80TTA or 80TTB to get relief of Rs 50,000 but not both.

80TTA is not for senior citizens. The applicable section is 80TTB. Hence question of opting doesn't arise.

Thanks Mr Chakrapani. It seems from your response that the senior citizens can avail only 80TTB but not 80TTA.
