Want to buy 1-2 acre land in agricultural land in maharashtr

hello all,

i am an non agriculturist , service professional, but want to buy a land in maharashtra for long investment purpose like 5-10 yrs and also 1-2 acre of land, but all the lands in outskirts of any city is agricultural, want to know whether i can buy that land and retain it for such period, i dont have any intention to do any agricultural activity, plz guide me regarding this issue.
