Police called for loan dispute

Hello, I have took a loan from NBFC in July 2024, with digital execution of agreement, on September 2024 i came to know that my wife was involved as co applicant in the same( without her will) (her KYC was asked as one of two references)

September 2024 i visited the pune office and said that this is wrongly done. They showed me a physical signed agreement with mine and my wife's forged signature ( their sales people created it)

I kept paying emi till December 2025 which is nearly 14 month from the dispute in a hope that it will resolve as pune office was actively working on it

January 2026 I filed RBI ombudsman to which they replied against me and thus I stopped payment and asked them to start arbitration which started in May 2026

Now I recived a call from police station which is in jurisdiction of their pune office. He said that complaint is recd and I need to file a FIR or else you come and settle.

Now the head office of NBFC is Chennai. And in anyways they can take complaint I am not seeking help for that. But what I want to understand is what is police role in non payment of emi while arbitration is going on and what exact FIR can they write, I will obviously file a cross FIR of criminal breach, forgery and identity theft.

My main query is what power police hold here and do I need to face jail for this?
