Notice period for resignation

I am working in a private firm. I want to resign from this private firm but I am bound to serve a notice period of 3 months according to my agreement/contract I signed with this firm at the time of my joining. Is there any law that could reduce the tenure of this Notice period of 3 months? I have searched on this topic and found that according to Industries Employment(Standing Orders) act the minimum notice period for Workmen is one month irrespective of their agreement/contract with their company. Is the same one month notice period law applicable to EMPLOYEES of a reputed private firm earning a good salary? Thanks for your comments in advance.
