Retirement Age - India

Respected members,

I do understand that the retirement age in indian context is 60 yrs, is it mandatory that the person who attains 60 yrs should retire from service.

If that is the case i do notice there are number of senior people who continue to work in organisations how is that possible?

Will need your expert advice on this pls.

Thanking you and ever greatful to your advice.

Rgds,

Partha.

yes u have rightly observed and as per my understanding organizations are not keeping retd. people in their Muster Roll after their superannuation age while the organizations avail their  services as consultant.

hi Sharmaji,

Thanks a lot for the clarification, but my question is, "is it mandatory for a person to retire" or can they continue on rolls once they cross 60 yrs.

your clarification on rehire as consultants does help but pls help with any reference to section in LLaws if it says mandatory to retire at 60 yrs ?

Thanks,

Rgds,
