In response to your query,

The mere fact that someone claims to be defamed by another person does not guarantee that a case will succeed. Defamation accusations can be defended in a variety of ways. If the defamer can successfully assert one of these defences, despite the defamation, he or she may be able to win the lawsuit.

The following are the most common defamation defences:

Truth, The allegedly defamatory statement was just an expression of opinion, Permission to the allegedly defamatory statement being published, Absolute privilege, Aualified privilege and Retraction of the allegedly defamatory statement.

In your case you can defend yourself by stating the truth and presenting the evidence you have against the university. Defamation is always defended by the truth. Remember that a false statement of fact is defamation. So, if the statement was true, it wasn't defamatory by definition.

Aryan Raj
