Taxability of stypend

My daughter is persuing her Post Graduation with DNB in medical from an institution recognized by the Govt.of India and receiving an amount of rupees 5,28,000/- per annum.Whether she is liable to pay any income tax on it or whether she is required to file any Income Tax return.

very college can say whether stipend is susceptible to tax, as stipends are not falling under any income classification but stipends are for defraying the expenses of the studies here DNB... and that means if there is a net savings from stipend on 31st march of financial year and if the net money left  with you is falling into the taxable bracket then tax might be possible but being  the stipend it is no income but stipend is some kind of gift given by any authority tax liability cannot surface as stipend is no income at all. pls.

so stipends cannot legally attract income tax as it is only on income earned by the stipendiary.
