Declaration of Holiday on the Day of Polling

Dear Lawyer Friends,

1. According to Sec.135B of the Representation of People's Act-1951 every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote at election to the Lok Sabha or legislative assembly of a state, shall on the day of poll  be granted a holiday.

2. If an employer contravenes the provisions of Sec. 135B of the Act, such employer shall be punished with fine which may extend to five hundred (Rs.500/-) - Election Commission's Circular bearing No.78/99/pln-1 dated 06.04.1999.
