Lawyer not giving us documents and written statement

We have civil case ongoing and lawyer is not giving us the return statement and documents filed by defendants in Ambur court.

If we ask lawyer says don't worry and I will take care of it, this is standard word given every time.

Can we get the written and documents by some other means?

Should I change the lawyer as well?

Quick Summary
If your lawyer is refusing to provide you with important case documents and written statements, you have options. You can obtain copies directly from the court by paying the required fees. It's also advisable to seek legal advice on issuing a notice to your lawyer or the Bar Council if they continue to withhold information. If you're unhappy with their service, you are within your rights to change your lawyer.

If the advocate insists on retaining your documents, issue a legal notice for filing a complaint before concerned (State) Bar Council.

1.   You can get all documents directly from the court copying section by paying necessary fees. If you are unhappy with your lawyer, you can change your lawyer.

In my view, the advocates are required to take their clients into confidence as to the pleadings and documents filed by the opposite side and provide copies, if sought for. However, it is an unfortunate fact that they seldom abide by the etiquette.

If your advocate is not cooperating then you can very well change the law by terminating the vakalatnama and obtain the copy through the new advocate.
