Maternity leave for adoptions

I have a Cousin working as professor in one of the reputed institution. She recently adopted a 3 month baby girl. Is she entitled for Maternity Leave, the benefits received by a Biological mother when she gives birth to her child. My understanding is that both Central and state Governments have made provision for the leave in such situations.

The adoption is completely legal and she has all necessary documents. If the organisations says no maternity leave as they have no such provisions, kindly suggest other alternatives.

Require urgent replies please.

Thank you in advance.

Being HR person, you shall appreciate that Leave Rules are as per enactments applicable to the establishment. These rules can offer benefits superior as stipulated in the applicable enactments but can not be inferior.

The leave rules applicable to the Central/State Govt. including Maternity Leave/Adoption leave................... may not necessarily be applicable to the reputed instt. you have referred.

You may go thru the leave rules of the Instt. relate these with CSO if applicable, and also relate with leave rules as advocated by Univ. with which it is affiliated (service conditions) , State Education Act....................

The approved adoption leave/paternity leave/annual leave/EOL/leave on LOP/Sabbatical leave etc can be other options...............................
