its so irritating

Hi Vijay! I can understand your concern. Regarding your 5G-related concern, as you have shared the location, currently 5G is not available at that location:***** However, we’re steadily expanding Vi 5G coverage across more areas. We truly appreciate your patience as we work towards bringing a high-quality 5G experience to your location. Even though the 5G symbol appears on your handset, we have a self-optimising network which switches to the best available network based on signal strength. Based on your nearby network sites, you will latch on to 5G or 4G networks so that you get the best network possible. In case you are not in a 5G coverage area or your network fluctuates between 5G and 4G, data starts getting deducted from your 4G data quota - Sana

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses the frustration of Vi 5G users in Hyderabad who are not receiving 5G service despite having a 5G-ready SIM and plan. Customers report seeing the 5G symbol but not connecting to the network, even at Vi centres. Customer care suggests the network may latch onto 4G if 5G isn't optimal or available, leading to data deductions from the 4G quota. Advice is given to file a formal complaint with consumer redressal commissions and TRAI.

Step 1: Complain to Your Operator (Tier 1) • Call Toll-Free: Dial 198 from your number to register a service or billing complaint with your provider. • Get a Docket Number: The call center must give you a unique docket number immediately. Save this number and the date. • Wait for Resolution: Operators must fix service faults or disruptions within 3 days and other complaints (like billing) within 7 days. Step 2: Escalate to the Appellate Authority (Tier 2) • File an Appeal: If your operator fails to resolve the issue or you are unhappy with the result, file an appeal with your operator's Appellate Authority. • Timeframe: You must file this appeal within 30 days of the complaint resolution deadline given by the call center. • Contact Details: Find specific contact details for your provider's Appellate Authority on the TRAI Grievance Redressal Mechanism

This situation highlights a common operational issue faced by users during phased 5G network rollouts. While telecom operators like Vi display a 5G network indicator on the device status bar when connected to an updated tower, the actual data transmission may fall back to 4G if the underlying 5G core network, bandwiddth capacity, or signal threshold is non-optimal.

If customer care and local Vi mini-stores/centres do not resolve the issue, oyu may log a formal ticket/docket, and escalate to higher authorities require an official Service Request (SR) or Ticket ID logged via the Vi App, 198 (Customer Care), or customercare@vodafoneidea.com.

If the issue is not resolved within the promised Resolution Time (TAT), submit a formal appeal to the Appellate Authority for your telecom circle (Telangana & Andhra Pradesh). Provide the previous ticket/SR number.

Register a complaint via the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) by calling 1915 or filing online at consumerhelpline.gov.in.

If monetary loss occurred due to plan misrepresentation, file a consumer dispute on the e-Daakhil portal (edaakhil.nic.in) to approach the relevant District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
