Revision petition

Revision petition: Use and purpose

I am eager to learn the objectives of the revision petition.

I have an order for interim maintenance u/s 24 HMA for wife from ADJ under divorce proceedings.

What is the purpose of a revision petition? (Assume that a revision petition is filed in a HC)

I fairly understand the following two objectives of a revision petition when an aggrieved party goes to a higher court challenging an order.

A) Correct the procedural errors on the part of the trial Court and provide further directions.

B) Alter the judgement of the trial court and direct the Court to proceed further from thereon.

Which of the above two is correct objective of a revision petition?

How different is an appeal from a revision petition in HC based on the above two aspects?

Does revision petition disposal require production of evidences?

In other words,

what different thing an appeal does in comparison to a revision petition in a HC?

Please explain me.
