Mental harassment by branch head

Dear All,

I'm working (Female) with One of reputed (AMC) organisation's branch office and our branch consist of Branch Head (primarily from sales team) and me (from Operations), our branch head is senior to me in organisation but he not my reporting manager, as I report to Cluster Operation head in Mumbai.

Off late behaviour of our branch head has changed and now a days he started behaving arrogantly only small things and started to search faults in everything I do, started doing blame game, and I've started feeling harassed.

I've brought this issue to my reporting manager, but I'm not getting Requisite Support from his Side.

I feel that I'm getting mentally harassed by Branch Head, and I'm not sure why he is doing like this.

I'm confused and requesting to suggest me further course action.

You have already noted that this BM is neither from your vertical and is nor your reporting authority.

It shall be appropriate to record all such incidences (audio/visual) and use it at appropriate time and in appropriate forum.

Rowdiness of Bosses is not a new thing.

Even courts of law have made reference to it and have made scathing remarks on it in the judgment.

You may narrate all representations made so far by you by phone, chat, email, in person, by letter etc (mention dates, names, phone numbers etc ) to your reporting manager as ap and thus build a written and favorable record. You may keep a copy of all communications, phone bills etc. for future reference and record.

Such matter should be preferably submitted by letter thru redg. post. and can be submitted from personal email id too.

If reporting manager does not intervene, escalate, arrange to provide any relief then you have the option to approach good offices of appointing authority, MD, CEO, Chairman...............................

If the establishment has internal Grievance Redressal Mechanism then it can be approached.

However, although the HR is expected to remain unbiased it may not be.

You are aware the big fish eats the small fish.

It is felt that the Branch Head-Sales is not making lewd, obscene, vulgar, outraging modesty ....................  comments that invite attention and representation to Internal Committee for prevention of se*ual harassment. If it is and if internal committee does not act satisfactorily, the outside committee of the Dist. can be approached.

It is felt that the Branch Head-Sales indulges in such acts when the Operations rejects/returns the Business brought by sales in Branch............................by inviting attention to points that violate internal systems of the company or are Compliance Issues.........................

Branch Head-Sales might be of the opinion that your actions are not letting him convert the calls/files into business and he is getting affected. So he might have resorted to bullying.

Probably until you pass, the files shall not move further and probably what you are doing is ‘RTS’::: Return to Sales.

The Sales would have sales targets to achieve and in addition KRA’s, TAT and they may have to face their regular ‘Telecons’ with their boses.

The OPS may not have sales targets to achieve but may have KRA’s, TAT.

If there is ‘no sale’ then first person to bear the brunt is from Sales Personnel.

If you have understood the politics, games that are practices in corporates then you would have had your answers.

All these filters are put in place to: satisfy the Regulators of the Government and if the situation becomes Ugly to Sacrifice the employment of one employee......................

It is a PCN (Pre Conceived Notion) that in private sector are filled with strictest rules to the brim, rules are sacrosanct, and rules are followed with utmost sincerity.

By now you would have realized that rules are flouted with utmost impunity in private sector.

The one who is weak becomes sacrificial goat......................

If you wish to remain in these waters then you have to learn the skill to swim and fish in these waters.

Better learn how to handle such matters and defend your interest and protect your employment.

Can't you talk him out?

As an employee you should also keep another venture for you ready and move ahead if the need be.

If the matter complicates and you are affected the outside agencies are:

Lawyer/Law firm

Trade Unions

Labor Inspector, O/o Labor commissioner

Inspector under Shops and Commercial Establishments Act

Women Commission

Police

Courts of Law
