Ahmedabad:Tainted former Chief of the Scam-hit Medical Council of India Ketan Desai been elected to the Executive Council of the Gujarat University.
Ketan Desai - accused in a multi crore rupee medical scam - was elected as a member of Gujarat university's executive council due to his powerful connections.
Despite spending months in jail on corruption charges, Desai got himself elected to the State University Senate and the State University Executive Council- the two highest decision making bodies of the Gujarat University.

Ketan Desai - accused in a multi crore rupee medical scam - was elected as a member of Gujarat university's executive council due to his powerful connections.
Despite spending months in jail on corruption charges, Desai got himself elected to the State University Senate and the State University Executive Council- the two highest decision making bodies of the Gujarat University.
His medical license was suspended in October 2010. The Medical council of India has written a letter to the Gujarat University warning it to disallow its former chief Ketan Desai from contesting any kind of elections to the university's senate.
"Its shameful for the Gujarat University and medical education. Dr Desai is making a back door entry into the MCI through the university. Its happening because of a nexus between Dr Desai and the VC and shelter by the state government," said Dr Manish Doshi, a member of the Gujarat University Executive Council.
The MCI has written a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University, citing its earlier letter of Oct 9, 2010, through which Desai's the medical practice license had been suspended.
The MCI has asked the Vice Chancellor to take steps to ensure that the MCI order of October 9 is not violated.
The MCI has warned the Gujarat University that Desai cannot be allowed to contest elections to the university senate or syndicate.
