I believe they did not force your mother to join the chit funds,it was due to her urgent needs that your mother joined the chit scheme.
If you have behaved erratically i.e., by not paying the chit amount regularly especially when you have already availed the bid amount then this type of harsh and violent behavior from the organisers is unavoidable.
There is no legal action possible especially when both the sides are at fault.

The individual behavior and the attitude of the person conducting chit fund is a different subject, aggrieved by the unbecoming behavior the affected person can resort to legal course by filing a criminal complaint for harassment and acts of cruelty including cheating or fraud, however conducting such chits funds cannot be termed as an illegal act until and unless an act of fraud or cheating takes place

The operation of an unregistered chit fund is illegal, and if anyone complains to the Registrar of Chits about that chit fund organisation. It is your fault for joining an unregistered chit fund organisation without informing the Chit Registrar.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Advocate) 12 July 2025
Of course operating and participating in an unregistered chit fund is illegal in India. The Chit Funds Act of 1982 prohibits the operation of unregistered chit funds, and participation in such schemes can lead to legal trouble, including potential fines and imprisonment.
Unregistered chit funds are more susceptible to fraud and mismanagement because they lack the oversight and regulations that apply to registered ones,
The government advises the public to avoid unregistered chit funds and instead opt for legally recognized financial institutions like banks or registered chit funds.
