Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily reiterated that he will bring about amendments in laws which hamper the trial system to bring about speedy justice to people.
‘We will infuse accountability, ethics, transparency and efficiency in the legal structure, will do away with the old laws, clearly define property rights and put in place a structure that infuses growth,’ the Law Minister said at a function here organised by ASSOCHAM.
Mr Moily claimed that by one year legal and administrative reforms will be put in place and by the next five years there will be no pendency of cases.
He ensured protection from unnecessary government interference in the industry, and victims of useless litigation will be awarded compensation.
Out of the total pending cases, 60 per cent are criminal cases of which some are serious offences and some are petty ones.
Cautioning the courts on their approach on such cases, Mr Moily said the courts should treat a person with such cases as a gentleman till he is proved guilty.
‘The trial should not be aimed to only punish but the judges should have a mindset to see the point of view of the accused as well. He should be seen more as how he can be liberated. Citizens should be treated with respect and not ruthlessly by the administration,’ Mr Moily stated.
