difference between donation and gift?

Dear Experts, is there any difference between donation and gift? can donation be done in lieu of consideration? Can it be revoked by the maker? Is there any act which covers the issue of donation?

Gift is given with love and affection but donation is given to take seat from lkg to higher studies with crying.
