Court fine for traffic accident

Hi, I was in an accident 2 yrs back, wherein the police charged me as the offending vehicle. Police said all i had to do was accept this and pay fine in court and that will end all matters. I didnt want to complicate matters, so i accepted to rash and negligent driving in court (due to which the other vehicle drivers supposedly had some minor injuries) and paid fine of Rs.1500. Now my questions are: 1. Is this a criminal offence ? 2. Have i been convicted of a criminal offence ? 3. When i apply for an australian visa, they are asking if i have been convicted of any criminal offence (including traffic) and want me to give details of such. Will i have to give details of this incident ? Thanks in advance for your advise. Rgds, Ram
