M. PIRAVI PERUMAL (Advocate & Consumer Rights)     20 February 2010

CIRCUIT BENCH OF STATE COMMISSION AT MADURAI

It is with profound pleasure  we note  that the Department of Food & Consumer Protection, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was pleased to issue orders and notify the same in the official Gazette for setting up of Circuit Bench of the SCDRC at Madurai, thus fulfilling the long-felt aspirations of the consumer community, especially those in the southern districts. Indeed is a boon to consumer by which they need not undergo the ordeal of long trips to Chennai any longer for agitating their cause – either original complaints or appeals involving considerable loss of time, energy and money.

As the litigants in the 13 districts covered by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, the consumer-complainants coming under these 13 districts will be greatly benefited by the creation of the circuit bench of SCDRC at Madurai.  The consumers of 13 southern districts for the past 2 decades has faced lot of hardship and incurred huge expenses since they have to come all the way to Chennai from down south to file their appeal against the orders passed by the District Forum.  Now, as the result of setting up the Circuit Bench at Madurai the consumers  of 13 southern districts can file their appeal thereby avoiding unnecessary huge expenses.  Further as a result of setting up of Circuit Bench at Madurai the pendency of appeals relating southern districts will be reduced and the fruits of the order can be enjoyed by the consumers.
