Alias in birth certifcate

Hi All, My wife’s birth certificate, issued in 1987, mentions her name as DEF. However, she changed her name to JKL during her 10th standard, and all her official documents since then — including Aadhaar, passport, and educational certificates — reflect the name JKL. Now, she is in the process of updating her birth certificate to reflect her current name, as it is required for obtaining permanent residency in a European country. However, the Municipal Corporation (MCD) has informed us that they cannot completely change the name from DEF to JKL. Instead, they will update it to "DEF alias JKL". An agent has advised us that if we proceed with this update, we would then need to change all existing documents (Aadhaar, passport, etc.) to reflect the name as "DEF alias JKL". This seems illogical to me. Could you please confirm whether this is accurate? Or is it acceptable to update the birth certificate to include the alias while continuing to use JKL in all other documents? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated, especially in the context of fulfilling immigration requirements.

You can create a one and the same affidavit, get it notarised and also get the affidavit published in a local newspaper to solve the problem.

Effecting changes in the birth certificate will not solve your problem because you would be required to change the name in all the documents including the school certificates which wil not be possible.

She was born in 1987 and the law states that birth certificate for people born before 26 January 1989 do not need birth certificate fo passport creation . and since birth certificate will not be required for any of her future passports, she can submit 10th class mark sheet as a proof of birth on which her name is only JKL. Why will she need to change all her documents with the name DEF alias JKL ? is there any rule regarding it ? We want her 2 names so that we can show to any of the embassies that she had changed her name and her birth certificate can reflect both her names and we can provide the gazzete copy when name was changed .This is because she was also issued a passport as a minor with the name DEF.

The alias is getting added at a much later stage and she changed her name legally then how come we need to update all the documents ? Moreover Aadhaar and passport do not allow 2 names ?

I am confused. Is it possible for me to take a consultation over phone with you sir ?

Very well advised by learned senior expert Mr. T Kalaiselvan, I fully agree and appreciate his acumen.
