Additional evidence at appellate stage

Dear Sirs,

I have been a defendant in a declaration suit. The suit was dismissed and in the judgment the trial court had mentioned that the plaintiff did not produce some crucial evidence that was important for adjudication. Now, the plaintiff has gone for appeal. While appeal proceedings are on, i had used the RTI act to get myself the evidence from the concerned authorities.

Can the RTI documents be now(during the appeal) produced in court as essential evidence by me(the defendant)? I believe it is important to bring to light the evidence which were earlier suppressed by the plaintiff, as that would have been counter productive to the plaintiff's interest. - Please suggest steps.
