Statement of accused under section 164 cr.p.c

I request the senior members of this forum to kindly assist me on the following preposition and if possible quote any law or citation of precedent in support of his answer.

Accused is charged in F.I.R and sent to judicial lockup but on his request, without declaring him as prosecution witness, his statement can be recorded under section 164 Cr.P.C on oath for falsifying the F.I.R story or not?

Anxiously waiting for your reply.

Generally 164 comes into play to corroborate the FIR or to own the liability unconditionally by the accused. If someone wish to falsify the FIR is contest and nothing else. accused statement will not fall under the purview of 164 here.
