Epf contribution

Sir

Suppose an employee is enrolled to PF in an organization after attaining the age of 50 What will be the status of contribution of both Employee and Employer.

Will it go to the Pension fund only.

Thanks in advance

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies EPF contribution rules for employees joining after the age of 50. It explains that contributions do not solely go to the Pension Fund. Instead, both the employee and employer contributions are allocated to the Provident Fund (EPF) and the Pension Scheme (EPS) according to standard EPFO guidelines.

The contributions will NOT go to the Pension Fund only. Joining the Provident Fund (PF) at age 50 does not divert all funds into the pension account. Both the Provident Fund (EPF) and the Pension Scheme (EPS) receive contributions based on standard EPFO guidelines

At the age of 50 years the employee must have worked earlier and opened / contributed to his PF account wherein the account must have been operational / continued, which cannot be presumed.

Prima facie it is an examination hall question paper and not a real story concerning you.

Sir

My wife who is working as a teacher in an unaided school in Thiruvananthapuram was having a PF account when she was working in the annexe of the school. This was almost 15 years back. She was moved to the main school some time in 2010.After this no PF was deducted Now the school authorities are saying that PF is to be deducted. My wife is 53 years if age.

That is why I raised the question

Employer contributions to EPS (Pension Fund) only apply until an employee turns 58 years old. Once she reaches age 58, her EPS membership ends, and the employer's full 12% will go straight into her EPF account instead.

Since she previously had a PF account 15 years ago, her old service can be linked to her current contributions.

To receive a monthly lifelong pension under EPS, a member needs a total combined service of at least 10 years.

f total combined service remains under 10 years at age 58, she will receive the accumulated pension amount as a lump-sum withdrawal (using Form 10C) alongside her full EPF corpus.
