Self cheque

One of relative gave self cheque of 3 lakhs since he was not able to go to bank and withdraw .On behalf of him I went to bank and withdrawn amount and gave back to him. Its in year 2012 now he is given case that I have to return 3 lakhs .Is I am punishable since I have made signature on back of that self cheque

If what you have written is true, your relative cannot claim the amount. If he goes to court, you submit before the court the facts as you have stated here. If a person gives a cheque across counter in a bank, the bank will not give cash unless the person presenting the cheque signs on the back of the cheque. Your relative will have to prove as to purpose for which he gave you the amount.
