Red Lights

Which provision of the Constitution of India authorises use of Red Beacon Lights on the top of the Vehicles?

What purpose such Lights serve?

Is the use of such Lights (and all legislation/delegated legislation framed permitting their use) not violative of Right to Equality guaranteed under the Constitution? What is the object sought to be achieved by such provisions (Intelligible Differentia)?

Does the use of Red Beacon Lights (which makes the person having it a previleged person) violative of Article 18 of the Constitution of India which prohibits conferring and accepting titles?

How and where the practice originated?

There is no constitutional provision in this regard.

The protocol order/instruction issued by the central govt, in respect of all india officers and state government in respect of state level officers within their respective state under the motor vehicles Act, has been used in this regard.

Even under the said notification, only certain high dignitaries were authorised to use the red beacon light on their vehicles.

For example, MLA, MP, Secretary to gevernment or other authorities are NOT authorised to use such light.

President, governor, Prime minister, chief minister, other ministers, supreme court, high court  judges alone were authorised, that too in their official vehicle not in personal vehicle.

Red light nowadays is used indiscriminately by all, including small time politicians, rowdys and businessmen.

Please see relevent manual for further information.

all the things are not covered by the constitution.

it is the state govt, who determine - who are entitled to use red light on the top of their vehicle.

Mr. Gupta. No law in India can be ultra vires the Constitution. My query is from which provision of the Constitution, the State Govt. derive their authority to issue directions/protocol/Gazette etc. for use of such lights.
