Railways refusing refund for cancelled train

I had booked two tickets on behalf of my friend and family from Kerela to Bangalore and Bangalore to Bhubaneswar  for october 26 and 27 respectively as  family was stranded in kerela as their tickets were not confirmed. The tickets I booked got confirmed and the family arrived in bangalore to bord the train for the next leg of the journey .To their horror the train got cancelled and they had to go through nightmare to get back to Kolkata via Bhubaneswar .I tried logging in the IRCTC multiple times to check the status of the tickets but could not login oweing to pathetically slow servers .

Following this I called up the customer care who filed a TDR on behalf of me .To my horror the Indian railway responded as mentioned below saying they will not refund my money as TDR TIME OUTSIDE LIMIT FOR PNR

This is gross injustice and corrupt practice from the Indian railways .Why cant they just refund all the tickets for a cancelled train ?? Why should we be liable for their corrupt and inefficient IT team and infrastructure ?

Members please advise me on the subject as I want to teach these people a lesson .

Your problem appears to be system problem. I do not think that there is any "corrupt practice". From whatever information you have given, I think that you wanted cancellation and refund for part of the journey from Bangalore to Bhubaneshwar due to cancellation of the train by the Railways. The cancellation rule they have referred to is for cancellation of unused ticket, which is not so in your case. You may have to write to the concerned authorities clearly stating the reason for cancellation. This case may have to be manually handled on the side of the Railways.

If you do not get refund in spite of your continued efforts you may file a case before the consumer court. These are handled by machines with minimum human intervention. You may get your refund. But no lessons are going to be learned by anybody, because there is no one there to learn any lesson.

I have waited out for almost more than a month but apart from the following mail forward to the concerned department nothing has been done .Such shameless crony behavior is just appalling on the part of railways .Sometimes it shamefull to be part of such a system .

In conjunction with above statement we would like to pass one information that if you face any problem in E-tickets like cancellation & Online **TDR** Filing then you have to send mail to etickets@irctc.co.in from registered e-mail id and apart from these query **for booking related general queries like refund, ERS, online booking etc. **please send mail to care@irctc.co.in.
