Professional Ethics Discussion Many legal notices end with expressions such as: "Drafted as per instructions and information supplied by my client." I have a few questions for members of the Bar: What is the legal significance of this phrase? Does it merely record the source of instructions? Does it limit the advocate's professional responsibility? Is an advocate expected to verify facts before issuing a legal notice? If verification is not required, what professional safeguards exist against issuing notices containing objectively impossible or demonstrably false assertions?

Quick Summary
This discussion delves into the professional ethics surrounding legal notices, specifically the phrase 'drafted as per instructions and information supplied by my client.' It questions the legal weight of this statement, whether it limits an advocate's responsibility, and the expectation of fact verification. The conversation also touches upon safeguards against issuing notices with false assertions when advocates rely solely on client-provided information.

The individual lawyer ie., author of the notice is not responsible for any sort of misinformation provided by his / her client.

What is the context for this query?

Anyhow, even in a court of law, the advocate is concerned with the legal aspects based upon the facts provided by the litigants.
