Picture of an accused person

Can an accused person's picture be shown in newspaper and social media?

Quick Summary
The publication of pictures of accused individuals in newspapers and on social media is a complex issue. While it may seem like a personal interest, publishing such images carries the risk of defamation charges if the person is later found innocent. The decision often rests with the police, considering the specific circumstances of the case. It's generally not illegal if the accused is absconding, but publishing before a court proves guilt is ethically questionable, even if currently happening.

Yes. That’s your personal interest. But, any damages charges will be borne by you if they are innocent as they can sue you under defamation charges.

It is at the discretion of police, depending on the circumstances and facts in the case.  It is not illegal if the accused is not available at his address, absconding and whereabouts can not be traced.

It is a fact that, nowadays, such pictures are being published. It could be that this is unethical, but remains untested.
