Marriage registration is compulsory?

The Supreme Court had asked states to make marriage registration compulsory -

So what does this really mean? I understand it is compulsory in Maharashtra but then what happens to those in Maharashtra who have not yet registered their marriage? What is the implication?

Just like the case of a man's conversion to muslim religion if done only for the purpose of second marriage without seemingly following the religion, then such a marriage is not valid

Simillarly - if a woman undergoes marriage rituals and refuses to register the marriage and continues life as unmarried and in maiden name for all official purposes - then is the marriage considered valid? or not? And how does the compulsory registration of marriage affect in this case?  Also I was told that it would make a difference if the woman was a government servant in any capacity.  Is this true?

Supreme court had ordered to make the marriage registration mandatery because it solves many legal problems like- to proof for legal heirness , proof for nominee , and most important to be considered as legal husband and wife on documents and a legal proof to get visa easily for foreign country and also it will restrain human traffickling .
