increase working hours

Due to additional staggering day for industries, to avoid extra cost of diesel to generate electric city, can we increase working hours per day of Packers (Ladies), helpers (gents) and staff?

I mean , can we declared 5 day week and increased no of hours per day?

Helpers and packers are on daily wages.

Please guide us considering the labour law , company law or other related law.

The payment of wages Act, 1936 . Section 4 relates to fixation of wage-period of wages. That every person responsible for the payment of wages shall fix periods in respect of which such wages shall be payable. Such period is called " wage-period".

As far as working hours for worker category is concerned, Factories Act provides the maximum limit per day for men / women / child / young worker / adoloscent.  Female workers cannot be employed in night shifts. Pls refer the entire law for more info.

But for staff, there are no regulations as they do not fall under workers category.

As far as working 5days, you can do so.  The regulation is to provide one complete day (24 hrs) rest after 6 days of continued work.

Normal working hours for a male employee is 8 hrs he can do 2 hrs O.T per day for female employee it is 1 hr O.T for them.Ladies cannot work in night shifts and the total O.T hrs should not exceed 50 hrs per quarter of a yr. 24 hrs rest is compulsary after 6 days.

The solution for ur problem is have two or three shifts (permission is must)

Female employees of certain industries / establishments can work during night shifts also as per the recent judgement by the Apex court subject to approval and provision of all the required facilities as required by law.

Normally, female employees cannot work between 10.00pm and 6.00 am (no permission can be sought to do so !)
