The Government issued the land for lease only.  After the lapse of that period, the government may take back the land.  If you wish to acquire land from the Government, please submit your details. If you are eligible, your application may be considered.

Very well analysed, opined and advised by learned senior expert Mr. Kavksatyanarayana, I agree and appreciate his acumen.

Land under lease for a specific purpose (growing fruits) for specific period (30 years) subsequently lease has not been renewed and possession of the land has been taken by Gujarat government, hence there is no legal infirmity.

Why was the land taken back? Was any show cause notice served?

You can potentially get a farmer certificate even if your grandfather leased the land, but it depends on the specific requirements of the issuing authority and the nature of the lease

Being a farmer in India is often tied to ownership or cultivation of agricultural land, but leasing can be a valid form of demonstrating agricultural activity.

Most authorities consider active cultivation of land as a key factor.

Providing evidence of farming practices, such as crop yields, expenses, and income, is crucial.

Each state in India may have its own specific rules regarding farmer certificates, so it's important to check with the relevant revenue or agricultural department in your state.
