He was 28 years old at the time. The attack also resulted in injuries of two other people who were travelling with him. The assassination sparked a political uproar in the state, with opposition figures criticising both the government and the police. On Sunday, State Police Head V.K. Bhawra said a gangster from Canada claimed responsibility for the incident.

He is accused of supplying automobiles to the assailants that killed Moosewala. Lawrence Bishnoi’s Petition

  • The appeal claimed that there was a substantial threat to Bishnoi's life and that he could be "put to hurt or liquidated by extrajudicial means" if he was produced or released from detention in connection with the FIR filed by the Mansa police.
  • The application requested that the Tihar jail authorities notify the court in advance of any production warrant issued by the Punjab or any other state police against Bishnoi, and not to hand him over to any other state police.
  • He stated in his appeal that he was wrongly accused of murdering the singer, Sidhu Moosewala.
  • If his production warrant is granted, the accused's attorneys will be notified, and the accused will be placed in custody with the condition that he be handcuffed and shackled, with all necessary safeguards in place during transit and while on production warrant, and that adequate arrangements be made while producing the applicant to any other court outside Delhi.
  • The plea further requested that suitable directives be issued for questioning him via online/video conference or within the confines of Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
  • Bishnoi had previously filed a case in the Delhi High Court seeking protection against a "false encounter" by the Punjab Police, but has since withdrawn the application.
  • On Thursday, Advocate General of Punjab, Anmol Rattan Sidhu informed a bench of Justice Sureshwar Thakur that Bishnoi had not been named in the FIR registered in Mansa in the Moose Wala murder case, and so the petition was premature and non-maintainable.
  • The accused has no ground to file the application before the court, according to Special Judge Praveen Singh.
