An affordable housing scheme called the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, also called PMAY, was established by the Prime Minister in 2015. This scheme aims to make housing available to poor rural and urban Indians. To be eligible, individuals have to fall within certain income groups.

About PMAY

The goal of the Indian government, with PMAY, is to work towards accommodation for all the needy by 2022. With more housing projects being sanctioned all over India, the demand for affordable housing is slowly, but surely, being met. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana eligibility involves applicants meeting certain criteria to get approval. In the scheme, applicants get loans at affordable interest rates and these subsidies are relaxed even more for weaker sections. Housing loans are given to individuals to construct a property or purchase one. Before applying, individuals should find out whether they are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for PMAY

Before you check your name on a PMAY list of eligible beneficiaries, you must see that you meet the eligibility criteria below:

  • You should be within the income category according to your economic segment.
  • One female member of your family should be the single owner or joint owner of the new accommodation for which the loan is taken.
  • The applicant should not own a pucca house before taking this loan.
  • Applicants should be in the range of 23 and 62 years, and should be earning the income prescribed for the category in which the loan is applied for.

How to Check Your Name in the Beneficiary List

When certain individuals in low-income groups apply for subsidized home loans, they automatically qualify for the PMAY list of eligible candidates to avail of the PMAY scheme. A list is generated online every year, and applicants can check if their names are on it. Here is how:

  1. Go to the official website of the Ministry of Rural Development of the Government of India at rhreporting.nic.in.

  2. Click on the tab that says ‘beneficiary’.

  3. Enter your details, like your name, spouse’s name, sanction number, etc.

  4. Go to ‘search’ and click on that.

  5. The search of your name on the list will be generated now.

  6. If your name is on the latest list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, that is the 2021 list, you should be able to see it pop up on the screen. Your profile will appear next to your name.

In case you have already fulfilled Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana eligibility and applied for the scheme under the rural or urban category, you can check if your name is on the list from the same website. Under both these categories, you will have a registration number which you have to enter under the ‘beneficiary’ tab to check your name on the list.
