Dear sir/Madam,
My last name (=surname) was spelt wrong during my 10th class (SSC/SSLC), it has added one extra letter -luckily not the first letter. (My first name has been fine - no issues). To illustrate here, my last name originally is lastname1 (Katambli), where as it was registered as lastname2 (Katambali) in 10th class certificate.
Not aware of the procedures and importance of correcting it quickly, and possible troubles of not changing it, lack of appropriate advice, I have continued with lastname1(Katambli) so far, including my bank account, voter ID card, PAN Card, etc, including my job. All my documents are with my lastname1 (Katambli).
I don't want this error to continue for my wife name, and hence taken care for their last name spelt as 'lastname1' so far –in her marriage certificate.
I am looking for giving an affidavit to Court stating that lastname1 and lastname2 are the same in my case, and I am the same person. I hope I can give this to the court instead of Notary, for a stronger case. At the same time, I am not ready to change all my existing documents to lastname1 because it takes months of time.
I need to go abroad along with family soon, and currently the last names on my degree certificate and SSLC marks card are slightly different. This could pose an issue in getting dependent Visa.
My understanding is that, if I give this affidavit to the court instead of a notary, my case will be strong and I can explain easily, where required, about the differences of spelling in my last name.
Pl advises me what affidavit I should execute, and how to go forward.
Thanks
Satish Katambli
