Regarding impact of drink and drive case on railway/ssc government job/banking job

6 month ago I was caught in drink and drive by police during their routine checking in another state odisha , I live in jharkhand. They filed a FIR BNS281 and MVA185 . I plead guilty and was fined 11000rs . Now I clear railway JE job . What will be the impact of this case on my government joining, will I be able to get the job on mentioning the case on attestation form . Please reply.

Quick Summary
A recent Railway JE candidate, previously fined for a drink-drive offence in Odisha, is concerned about its impact on their job joining. While a conviction for a minor traffic offence, resolved with a fine and no jail time, generally doesn't constitute an adverse criminal record, honest disclosure on the attestation form is crucial. Supreme Court rulings suggest such petty offences shouldn't automatically disqualify candidates, leaving the final decision to the appointing authority's discretion.

Convictions in such petty offences, on pleading guilty, does not amount to adverse criminal antecedent.

Your Railway JE job selection is not in danger. Because the case was a traffic offense resolved through a fine without jail time, it does not involve moral turpitude and will not automatically disqualify you. However, your joining depends entirely on complete and truthful disclosure on your attestation form.

In landmark rulings like Avtar Singh v. Union of India (2016), the Supreme Court held that conviction or payment of a fine in minor/petty offenses should not ordinarily bar a candidate from government employment. The appointing authority holds the discretion to accept candidates with settled petty traffic convictions.

Very well explained, opined and advised by learned experts, I endorse it.

The fine imposed shall not be affecting your job profile.
